Three days of activities at the XVIII Monterrei Wine Fair

On Friday, August 8 will take place the medal ceremony of the Cofradía de los Vinos de Monterrei, in which three new members will be appointed: Xosé Manuel Santiago Afonso, José Manuel Goméz Gómez and Manuel Pardo Cid.
Xosé Manuel Santiago Afonso, responsible for the association of defense of health of the vineyard (ADF), in addition to the autonomous program for the control of diseases (until its disappearance). Currently working as a technician for the Farmers’ Union in Verín, helping with issues such as advice, land analysis or disease diagnosis, among others.
José Manuel Gómez Gómez, from Cazolas, has been involved in the wine sector until his retirement. As a technician in the Rural Office of Verín, he has been responsible for the technical and administrative care of winegrowers and vintners, in areas such as regulations, use of plant protection products, sustainable practices, integrated pest management, procedures for aids and subsidies in the wine sector, management of registers or approval of plantings. This agricultural engineer has also been a member of the Certification Committee of C.R.D.O. Monterrei. Currently he is president of the I.X.P. Pataca de Galicia.
The territorial delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Ourense, Manuel Pardo Cid, has had a relationship with viticulture from an early age, when he helped in the family nursery where grafts were made for sale. Although his professional life has taken him to the world of law and public administration, he maintains the union with his origins, and after restructuring vineyards in the region of Monterrei, continues to care for them. Very close to Verín, he also served as court clerk at the local Court of First Instance and Instruction no 2.
This event, which is carried out in conjunction with the celebration of the Monterrei Wine Fair, will be held at the Parish Church of Verín, from 18.30 hours (free admission until full capacity). The Cofradía de los Vinos de Monterrei was created in 2013 and will have 57 members (some of them posthumously appointed).
