Festival Monterrei Reverdece and Showroom Bilbao, upcoming activities of the D.O. Monterrei
03/10/2025The Designation of Origin Monterrei gathered yesterday around 170 professionals from the wine sector, who came to the Hotel Alexandra in Barcelona to know the news and trends of the wineries of the D.O. Monterrei participating in the showroom.
During the day, professionals in the sector were able to see firsthand the most representative wines from 21 of the 29 wineries currently attached to the Monterrei Designation of Origin, which showed the impressive varietal diversity and versatility of the wines of this Galician designation of origin.
“For the designation, Barcelona is one of the main markets for selling our wines, and this is highlighted not only by economic reports but also by the wineries themselves, which demand action in this city,” says the president of the entity, Manuel Vázquez Losada. “For this reason we have wanted to promote this initiative that allows us to strengthen our promotional work initiated in BWW, and which has been aimed solely and exclusively at the professional sector” says Vázquez, “and thus strengthen our brand image, consolidate current markets and explore new marketing channels basing ourselves on the highest quality”.
The participating wineries were: Ladairo, Pazo das Tapias, Gargalo, Castro de Lobarzán, José Luis Gómez Ibáñez (Valderello), José Antonio Da Silva Pereira (Vinos Lara), Crego e Monaguillo, Minius, Terras do Cigarrón, Triay, Pazo Blanco Núñez (Tapias Mariñán), Fragas do Lecer, Vía Arxéntea, Abeledos, Pazo de Valdeconde, Tabú, Alba Al-Bar (Daniel Fernández), Fausto Rivero (Quinta Soutullo), Manuel Vázquez Losada, Alejandro Ramón Blanco Dijkhoff (Ramón Bigotes) and Terra de Godello.
In total, the wineries presented 45 references that encompass both their renowned whites and their amazing reds, a bet that every day takes more strength in the D.O. Monterrei.
Thus, among the 25 white wines presented, it was possible to taste monovarietals in which the Godello grape shines with special intensity, but also coupages with other native Galician varieties such as Albariño, Treixadura or Doña Blanca. The reds were very well represented by 20 very diverse references, among which stood out those made with its star grape, Mencía, which was conjugated in some of its wines with Sousón, Caíño red and Araúxa (Tempranillo), varieties that are trend among winelovers.
