D.O. Monterrei promotes its wines at two trade events in the Netherlands
23/10/2026
The initiative, held on 3, 4 and 5 November, has allowed international professionals to gain first-hand insight into Monterrei’s wine-growing region and discover the diversity and quality of its wines.
The Monterrei Designation of Origin has hosted an incoming trade mission involving importers and buyers from the Netherlands and Ireland. This promotional initiative aims to showcase Monterrei’s winemaking potential and foster new business opportunities in international markets.
During their stay in the region, the visiting professionals had the opportunity to taste 24 wines from the Designation of Origin (13 whites and 11 reds). This selection allowed them to discover the diversity of winemaking styles, grape varieties and wine profiles that characterise Monterrei wines.
The programme also included professional visits to seven wineries registered with the D.O. Monterrei: Abeledos, Gargalo, Tapias Mariñán, Terras do Cigarrón, Castro de Lobarzán, Triay and Manuel Vázquez Losada. At each winery, the importers and buyers had the opportunity to explore the facilities, learn about the wineries’ wine projects and winemaking philosophies, and taste a selection of their wines.
The incoming trade mission forms part of the Monterrei Designation of Origin’s promotional strategy and its efforts to open up new markets. The organisation continues to work towards increasing the presence and recognition of its wines beyond Spain, establishing direct connections between wineries and professionals in the distribution and import sectors.
The President of the D.O. Monterrei, Manuel Vázquez, highlights the importance of these initiatives for the future of the sector: «Incoming trade missions involving importers represent a valuable opportunity to introduce our wines to professionals from strategic markets. They allow these professionals to discover our region first-hand, visit our wineries, learn about their projects and experience the quality and diversity of our wines. Direct contact is essential to building trust and establishing potential business relationships that will help further strengthen Monterrei’s position in international markets».
Through this initiative, the D.O. Monterrei reinforces its commitment to internationalisation, the promotion of its wineries and the development of new commercial channels, highlighting the quality, character and uniqueness of its wines to buyers from European markets.
