Showcookings featuring products from Experiencias de Calidade, wine tastings, and various other activities round out the 19th Monterrei Wine Fair
16/07/2026The Regulatory Council of the Monterrei Designation of Origin (D.O. Monterrei) held its annual Vintage Classification Tasting at its headquarters, where the 2025 vintage was awarded the rating of “Excellent.”
The tasting panel was composed of wine professionals Enrique Santiago Pérez Espiño (technician at D.O. Valdeorras), Juan Manuel Posada Curros-Buendía (Galician Association of Oenologists), Jorge Cajete Facorro (sommelier at Taberna Vinoteca O Carro), Carmen Gómez Viforcos (technician at D.O. Bierzo), Rebeca André Estévez (official tasting panel of D.O. Monterrei), Begoña Gómez González (official tasting panel of D.O. Monterrei), and Nuria Trigueros Añibarro (official tasting panel of D.O. Monterrei). After evaluating the wine samples, the experts unanimously awarded the “Excellent” rating to the 2025 Monterrei vintage.
The tasting committee highlighted “the outstanding quality of the wines presented, as well as the consistency and regularity of their quality standards.” This recognition as an “Excellent Vintage” reflects the adaptability and professionalism of the entire production sector of D.O. Monterrei. Despite the adverse circumstances caused by the wildfires that affected the region in 2025, the resilience and expertise of the winegrowers, winemakers, and winery owners turned adversity into an opportunity, resulting in the 2025 vintage achieving an “Excellent” classification.
The classification process was carried out using a representative selection of wines from the appellation, which was assessed by the expert tasting panel. All wines were evaluated through blind tastings, ensuring the highest level of impartiality and objectivity, as all samples were completely anonymous. The final score was calculated as the average of the individual assessments made by each taster, taking into account both white and red wines. The result was then applied to the official classification scale, from which the final rating for the 2025 vintage was determined.
