The Monterrei PDO begins the 2026 grape harvest with the picking of the first grapes
17/08/2026The nineteenth edition of the Monterrei Wine Fair has become the most successful in the history of this food and wine event, with a record total of more than 36,000 tastings sold.
The high attendance over the three days, with visitors coming from different parts of Spain, as well as from across Galicia and northern Portugal, confirms the consolidation of the Fair as one of the main showcases for Galician wines.
The results achieved this year are the outcome of a firm commitment to renewal, innovation and the promotion of the Monterrei Wine Fair, driven in recent years by the current President of the Regulatory Council of the Monterrei PDO, Manuel Vázquez.
The introduction of new initiatives and improvements to different aspects of the Fair aim to bring it closer to younger generations and enhance the experience for all attendees, while also helping to highlight and increase awareness of the product and the wine culture associated with the Monterrei region.
The response from attendees was also evident in the complementary activities scheduled during the Fair. The tasting sessions and showcookings featuring quality local products reached full capacity one week before the event began, demonstrating the high level of interest in proposals linked to wine, gastronomy and knowledge of products from the region.
In addition, one of the main changes in recent years has taken place in the gastronomic offering. The range of food stalls available during the event has been expanded and diversified, doubling the number of options compared with previous editions. This development provides a greater variety of culinary choices for the thousands of visitors who travel to Verín during these days.
Manuel Vázquez, President of the Regulatory Council of the Monterrei PDO, highlights that “the figures reflect the work carried out over many months and our commitment to renewing the Fair. We wanted this edition to be different, to reach more people and, above all, to be able to attract new audiences. Surpassing 36,000 tastings demonstrates the potential of Monterrei wines and shows that the path we have embarked upon is delivering results. The success of this event belongs to the participating wineries, thanks to their effort and involvement, as well as to all the attendees.”
