The D.O. Monterrei collaborates with the pilgrimage ‘O Val do Viño’

On July 3, the community of Vilamaior mountains organizes the pilgrimage O Val do Viño, which will celebrate a series of acts of exaltation of the Sanctuary of Remedies, its environment and its relationship with the world of wine. These activities have the collaboration of the Denomination of Origin Monterrei and the City of Verín.

Second have emphasized the organizers, the purpose of this event is to make known, the wine of yesterday, today and tomorrow, from this spectacular iconic Sanctuary that is review not only of Verín yes not of the entire region. Every bit of this place tells us about culture, the neighborhood, the Pilgrimage… of the end of summer feast that so many years has united people to redor of the Sanctuary.

The main objectives of this initiative are to promote wine, the countryside and the Sanctuary, to spread the tradition and culture #vitivinícola, the D.O. Monterrei; to value traditions, pilgrimages and folklore linked to wine; to seek a socio-cultural impact on the tourist; recover those of the traditions that the new generations almost ignore and know the relationship between religious orders and viticulture in the region; visibilize the historical and artistic legacy of the Sanctuary of Remedies; discover relevant figures linked to the region of Verín as for example García Barbón, as well as revalue women and their role in viticulture.

The most significant acts of this celebration will be: a walk through the surroundings of the vineyards, craft fair, theatrical representation of the relationship of the vineyard yesterday and today with the Sanctuary and a tasting meal for 300 people of meat and wine, which will feature an exquisite menu in which the veal al espeto will be the main dish.

The food and tasting will be provided by the Basque chef Karlos Ibarrondo who will prepare the meat live before the diners using the “burduntzi” technique. This form of roasting, which consists of roasting on charcoal embers on a slow and constant fire, is native to Elorrio, in Biscay. Tickets, which will cost 25 euros, are available at the Lito Bar (Castrelo do Val), Gandainas, Tienda O Taller, Asubío, Pato Xoieros and Generali Seguros.
