
International prescribers dive into the D.O. Monterrei

For the second year in a row, the taster Beth Willard, international expert in wines, has approached the territory of D.O. Monterrei to know, first hand, the wine projects of 22 wineries registered in the entity.
Willard, as representative of the Master of Wine Tim Atkin, is working on a detailed report with scores on Galician wines within the framework of the Special Reports, special publications they issue on the different designations of origin; and which will enable Monterrei to strengthen its brand image, as well as helping the wineries to boost their wines and achieve a greater projection in international markets.
During his stay he got to know, in situ, the work carried out by the wineries Triay, Abeledos, Gargalo, Terras do Cigarrón, Pazo das Tapias, José Luis Mateo García (Quinta da Muradella) and Manuel Vázquez Losada. In the visit to these wineries, and with the help of their managers, you have discovered vineyards, facilities and, of course, the different winemaking processes that they have.
On the other hand, a Wine Tunnel has been carried out at the headquarters of the Control Board, which has allowed to show the product of fifteen other wineries of the denomination: Trasdovento, Minius, Alejandro Ramón Blanco Dijkhoff (Ramón Bigotes), Ladairo, Pazo de Valdeconde, Pazos del Rey, Tabú, Alba Al-Bar (Daniel Fernández), Vía Arxéntea, Fausto Rivero Pardo (Quinta Soutullo), Fragas do Lecer, Franco Basalo, José Antonio Da Silva Pereira (Vinos Lara), José Luis Gómez Ibáñez (Valderello) and Manuel Regueiro García (Serra de Alén).
On this occasion, Willard has tasted more than 90 wines (white, red, monovarietal, coupages, special elaborations with barrel or lees), from different harvests, from 2012 to 2025, verifying the good evolution of the same over time.
In addition to collaborating with the Master of Wine Tim Atkin, Beth Willard is a writer for Decanter magazine and co-president of the Decanter World Wine Awards contest, and performs tastings and presentations of Spanish wines.
