D.O. Monterrei and Inorde will launch a pilot project to digitize and optimize crop management in this area

The president of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Monterrei, Jonatás Gago García, and the president of the acting Inorde, Rosendo Fernández, have signed today at the headquarters of the D.O. in Verín, a collaboration agreement between the two entities to launch a pilot project for digitization and optimization of crop management at the territorial level of this designation of origin.

For that, the Inorde will install agroclimatic stations that cover the entire territory in which the Denomination of Origin Monterrei extends, at the points deemed necessary and appropriate for the operation of the network enabling winegrowers to receive a precision agriculture service. “We launched this initiative in this Designation of Origin taking advantage of the fact that Inorde has an experimental farm in this territory, to explore the benefits of installing and using new digital tools that facilitate the work of our winegrowers, with the aim that this pilot project can serve the rest of the province,” said Rosendo Fernández.

This action will allow the installation of agroclimatic stations that allow winegrowers to use cutting-edge technology through which to obtain specific information about their plot, whether or not they have a station installed in it. The information obtained can be integrated into other systems and tools, providing a democratized global service, continuing in that line of work that makes it possible to bet on sustainability and that this is compatible with profitability. The data and evaluations resulting from the pilot project may be used to implement other projects or replicate this project in other territories.

For its part, the Denomination of Origin Monterrei undertakes, through this agreement, that winegrowers disclose the benefits of precision agriculture that, in this pilot project, will allow all of them access to the same application and platform, in which they will have equal access to the functionalities activated in the first phase, and in which each winegrower will be able to choose to activate new modules second their interest, fully compatible with those that will start in the second phase.

Another objective of this initiative “is to obtain data to be able to develop experiences that serve to strengthen applications for larger projects and investment, as is currently being worked on to present one on forest bioeconomy under the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience”, explained the president of Inorde in office.

On the other hand, the implementation of this system will allow winegrowers to have precise data on which to base the decision whether or not to use a plant protection treatment, as well as their corresponding justification in the field notebook which they must cover. Also, apart from all this, the implementation of this project, once it is operational, will help the winegrowers reduce the use of plant protection products, with the corresponding increase in profitability that this implies for them and obtain more sustainable and environmentally friendly products.
