The Monterrei Wine Route, in collaboration with Turismo de Galicia, is hosting a new edition of the Spring Open House from May 8 to 10.
In this wine tourism initiative, which also has the support of the municipalities of Oímbra and Monterrei, five wineries from the appellation will participate, offering guided tours of their facilities accompanied by a tasting of Monterrei wine. The wineries participating in the initiative are: Adegas Daniel Fernández, Pazo de Valdeconde, Bodegas Ladairo, Triay, and Vía Arxéntea. Visiting hours will be on Saturday at 12:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
Restaurants associated with the route (O Segredo do Retiro and Parador de Verín-Monterrei) will also take part in this event, offering a special menu paired with wines from the Monterrei D.O. at a price ranging from 45 to 60 euros. In addition, special offers will be available at the following establishments: O Retiro do Conde, Parador de Verín-Monterrei, and Hotel Villa de Verín. Reservations must be made directly with the establishments, specifying that it is for the Spring Open House offer.
This initiative, in addition to guided tours and tastings at wineries, also includes the following activities:
– “Monterrei Harmony & Seafood Preserves.” (Friday, the 8th, at 8:00 p.m., in the auditorium of the Apostolic Mercedarian CPR in Verín). In this event, participants will discover the culinary potential of wines from the Monterrei D.O. paired with various types of seafood preserves. – “Monterrei & Cheese Pairings.” (Saturday, the 9th, at 8:00 p.m., in the auditorium of the Apostolic Mercedarian CPR in Verín). This is a pairing workshop that will explore the gastronomic potential of Monterrei wines with various iconic Spanish cheeses. – “Wine Tunnel: D.O. Monterrei Vintages’’. (Sunday, the 10th, at 12:00 PM, in the auditorium of the Apostolic Mercedarian CPR in Verín). The event takes the form of a wine tunnel featuring wineries on the Monterrei Wine Route. It will be organized by vintage, with climate information for each vintage, highlighting the value of the region and the climatic profiles of vintages as diverse as 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021… Advance registration is required: Ruta do Viño Monterrei (988 590 007 // rutavinomonterrei@gmail.com).
– Rock Wine Press Trail. A marked hiking trail that takes you past the rock wine presses in the municipality of Oímbra (no registration required; you can do it on your own).
In addition, the Wine Bus will be available. This service costs 10 euros per adult and 5 euros for children (ages 3 to 13). The service will offer five routes on Saturday, May 9, with departures from A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, and Ourense.
