11/06/2026The wine tunnel showcased the richness and versatility of the Monterrei D.O. to more than 100 industry professionals who visited the showroom, where they were able to taste more than 45 wines from 22 wineries in the Monterrei D.O.
The Monterrei Designation of Origin brought together more than 100 wine industry professionals yesterday at the Petit Palace Savoy Alfonso XII Hotel in Madrid to learn about the latest developments and trends from the Galician wineries participating in the wine tasting event. During the event, sommeliers, distributors, restaurateurs, wine shop owners, journalists, and influencers were able to experience firsthand the wines from 22 of the 30 wineries currently affiliated with the Monterrei Designation of Origin, which showcased the impressive varietal diversity and richness they bring to the wines of this Galician designation of origin.
“For the designation, Madrid is one of the main strategic markets for our wines, as highlighted not only by economic reports but also by the wineries themselves, which are calling for initiatives in this city to achieve greater market penetration,” states the organization’s president, Manuel Vázquez Losada. “For this reason, we wanted to promote this initiative, which allows us to strengthen our promotional efforts—which have been directed solely and exclusively at the professional sector,” states Vázquez, “and in this way increase awareness of our wines, consolidate current markets, and explore new marketing channels while remaining committed to the highest standards of quality.”
The event featured a carefully curated selection of more than 45 wines produced by 22 wineries within the appellation, offering attendees the opportunity to discover the richness, diversity, and character of one of the most promising appellations in the Spanish wine industry. Attendees were able to explore the different styles found within the Monterrei D.O., ranging from limited-production 100% Godello wines from unique vineyards to lesser-known single-varietal Mencía wines, not to mention the characteristic blended wines crafted from the wealth of native varieties that define the region, in addition to Godello and Mencía, such as Treixadura, Doña Blanca, or Albariño for whites, and Sousón, Caíño Tinto, and Aaraúxa for reds.
This professional gathering provided an opportunity to delve deeper into the unique identity of Monterrei, a wine region that combines winemaking tradition, diverse soils, and a distinctive climate that gives its wines a distinctive character. The event featured the participation of 22 wineries: Pazo Blanco Núñez (Tapias Mariñán), Ladairo, Fragas do Lecer, Minius, Daniel Fernández (Alba Al-Bar), Franco Basalo, Trasdovento, Triay, Terras do Cigarrón, Pazo de Valdeconde, Vía Arxéntea, Tabú, Terra de Godello, Gargalo, Father 1943, Crego e Monaguillo, Manuel Regueiro García (Serra de Alén), Fausto Rivero Pardo (Quinta Soutullo), Ramón Bigotes, Quinta do Buble, Jose Luis Gómez Ibáñez (Valderello), and Manuel Vázquez Losada.
