The XVIII Feira do Viño de Monterrei already has the announcement poster that will illustrate the event
06/06/2025On 9 June, the Monterrei Designation of Origin arrives in Valencia to present the new vintage of its wines in a professional meeting that will have the participation of 19 wineries. The event will take place in Mercader, the gastronomic temple nestled in an old 19th century cooperage at the gates of the maritime Valencia.
There he will present his wines made with two of his most representative varieties: Godello, in whites, and Mencía, in reds. On this occasion in this initiative will participate the following wineries: Ladairo, Pazo das Tapias, Gargalo, Castro de Lobarzán, José Luis Gómez Ibáñez (Valderello), Crego e Monaguillo, Terras do Cigarrón, Triay, Pazo Blanco Núñez (Tapias Mariñán), Fragas do Lecer, Vía Arxéntea, Abeledos, Pazo de Valdeconde, Tabú, Alba Al-Bar (Daniel Fernández), Fausto Rivero (Quinta Soutullo), Manuel Vázquez Losada, Alejandro Ramón Blanco Dijkhoff (Ramón Bigotes) and Terra de Godello.
This presentation will be the starting point for the “Ruta Vino del Verano D.O. Monterrei” with which this designation of origin will be installed in premises of the size of the own Mercader, La Marítima, La Ferrera, Bodega Biosca, Vinostrum and Travieso, with different actions in which “Godellos” and “Mencías” will take the floor during the summer months, demonstrating that these Atlantic wines harmonize wonderfully with Mediterranean cuisine. According to Manuel Vázquez, president of the Regulatory Board, “this initiative will be a great opportunity for our wineries, since through this route, the wines of the denomination will be present in tables and terraces during the summer, and so can be discovered by Valencians and tourists who approach the city of the Turia”.
The success of the Godellos de Monterrei in the national and international market is explained by its authenticity. Freshness, minerality or balance are some of the characteristics of these wines, whose maximum is quality. A quality in every phase of the process, which is recognized nationally and internationally, with awards and recognitions in specialized press. But also the Mencías de Monterrei are recognized, which stand out for their balanced acidity body and good evolution in bottle. “They are wines with structure, but without losing lightness, which makes them very pleasant to drink,” says Vázquez.
Compared to other Galician regions more Atlantic, Monterrei has a more continental climate and a great diversity of soils, which allows to make wines with greater structure and storage capacity, without losing freshness.
The gastronomic versatility is another of the great values of this denomination, both whites and reds adapt to different styles of cuisine, which makes Monterrei an attractive option for restaurants.
